Susan J. Crawford, Independent Director, Resources Connection, Inc.

Susan J. Crawford is an independent director of Resources Connection, Inc. Elected to the Resources Board in 2007, she is a member of the Corporate Governance and Nominations Committee.

In November 1989 she was nominated by President George H.W. Bush and confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the Inspector General of the Department of Defense. In that position she was responsible for oversight of the programs and operations of the Defense Department. For her service in this position she received the Department of Defense Distinguished Public Service Award in 1991.

In 1991, President Bush nominated, and the Senate confirmed Susan to a 15 year term as a federal civilian judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. During her tenure on this federal civilian appellate court, Judge Crawford served a five year term as Chief Judge, and retired upon completion of her 15 year term on September 30, 2006. The court has worldwide appellate jurisdiction over members of the armed forces and addresses a wide range of legal issues including constitutional, criminal and national security law as well as criminal procedure.

Following her retirement from the court, Susan was appointed by Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates in January 2007 to serve a 3-year term as the Convening Authority and Director of the Office of Military Commissions. The position of Convening Authority was created by Congress in the Military Commissions Act of 2006 and is a quasi-judicial official who oversees the war crimes trials of unlawful enemy belligerents currently held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. For her service in this position she was awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.

Susan is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and for the Armed Forces, and the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar Associations. In 2005 she was selected a Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania in recognition of her outstanding service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the nation. She received a B.A. in history from Bucknell University. She has been a member of the University¡¯s Board of Trustees since 1988 and served a six year term as Chair of the Board from 2003 to 2009.
